CARTERSVILLE, Ga. -- A suspect has been arrested in a fatal shooting Saturday night in the city of Cartersville.

Antavious Deshaun Linley, 24, of Kingston has been charged with one count of murder.

Officers responded to a shots fired call in the vicinity of 21 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. The shooting took place around 11 p.m.

Officers located a deceased black male, who had been shot in the head, in the backyard of that residence. He was identified Sunday as 24-year-old Actavious Tahji Thompson of Cartersville.

The investigation into Thompson's death is ongoing.

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. -- The man who escaped from a prisoner transport van in Cartersville last week has been arrested hundreds of miles away.

Sean Killion was taken into custody without incident near Ellettsville, Ind., just northwest of Bloomington. He was transported to a federal holding facility.

Killion, 42, was on his way to Indiana from Florida when he first escaped. Cartersville Police said he shoved a female security guard and ran from the transport van after it stopped at a Pizza Hut.

The suspect was originally arrested on a probation violation warrant. Investigators have not yet said what, if any, charges he will face in the escape.

The U.S. Marshals Task Force, Indiana State Police, Indiana Department of Corrections and DEA Task Force all worked together to arrest Killion.

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. -- A 17-year-old Cartersville man has been charged with breaking into at least two cars.

Rufus Travise Talmadge was arrested this week. Investigators said he is the suspect in the break-ins inside the Wellington subdivision near Dellinger Park.

The thefts happened overnight on Feb. 8-9. Police believe they may be additional victims.

Wellington residents who may have been victimized are asked to reach out to the Cartersville Police Department and file a report.

Residents express fear about 'creeper' approaching kids

ADAIRSVILLE, Ga -- More than 100 people showed up at a neighborhood watch organizing meeting at Adairsville High School Monday to express their concerns about a man who is lurking in wooded areas and approaching children.

Bartow County Sheriff Clark Millsap was in attendance after hearing that some residents might try to take matters into their own hands.

"
I'm hoping that they will use restraint," he said. "I'm hoping that they will call us. I'm hoping that they will let us handle this in a legal way."

Sheriff Millsap also confirmed that a fourth sighting happened Monday. A boy and a girl told police they saw a man wearing all black and a mask near power lines along Iron Mountain Road.

(WXIA) -- Georgia Department of Transportation crews will work in all the usual problem areas this weekend.

Drivers are asked to avoid Interstate 285 if possible, as construction projects will be performed on several stretches of that road.

As always, all weekend roadwork is weather permitting.

2 northbound lanes of I-285 will be closed between Paces Ferry Road and Cobb Parkway from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday for sign structure work.

Cobb/Fulton counties
3 westbound lanes of I-285 will be closed between New Northside Drive and I-75 from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday for sign structure work.

Cobb/Fulton counties
2 northbound lanes of I-285 will be closed between Bolton Road and South Cobb Drive from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for concrete rehabilitation.

Police search for escaped inmate in Cartersville

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. – The search for an escaped inmate has been called off in Cartersville. A police spokesman tells 11Alive News they've received "credible information" Sean Killion is no longer in the area.

According to the Cartersville Police Department, the inmate was being transferred from Florida to Indiana. While the prison transport vehicle was stopped at a Pizza Hut, the inmate. who was shackled, was being moved from the bus and pushed a female guard, managing to get away, the Bartow County Sheriff's Office said. The guard was slightly injured in the melee.

A manager at the Pizza Hut told 11Alive's Kevin Rowson that the transport vehicle had called ahead to order the pizzas. The guards went inside the restaurant, picked up the pizzas and then left.

The inmate, identified as 42-year-old Sean Killion, was last seen behind a Martin's Restaurant on Highway 41, which is located about a mile south from the Pizza Hut.

The fifth annual event will be Saturday, Feb. 7 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at participating restaurants.

Attendees will also be treated to tableside service, limousine and trolley rides, and other surprises.
