17-month-old baby's death under investigation | News
WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- Cherokee County Sheriff's investigators are looking into the death of a 17-month-old baby earlier this week.
The child, Kaylee Rayne Johnson, was found unresponsive at around 1 a.m. Sunday at a home on Red Bird Way in Woodstock. The house belongs to Kaylee's mother's boyfriend, 30-year-old Michael Naples.
The mother, 22-year-old Jaime Beck of Bartow County, said she got up to get a glass of water and found her daughter lying at the bottom of the basement stairs, according to Cherokee Sheriff's spokesman Lt. Jay Baker. Beck, Kaylee and Beck's 3 year old were staying overnight at the house.
Kaylee was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital and was later flown to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite, where she was placed on life support. She was pronounced dead Tuesday.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy Wednesday. Baker said Kaylee's cause of death is still under investigation. No charges have been filed.
Baker said Naples has gotten a lawyer and is not talking to deputies.
