Authorities in Cartersville search for missing teacher | News
CARTERSVILLE, Ga. — A search is underway in Cartersville for a missing teacher after he failed to show up for work Monday morning.
The Cartersville Police Department posted about the search Monday afternoon.
According to police, Scott Salter is a teacher at Cass High School and did not show up to work when classes began. After an initial search, Salter's car was found at the Cooper's Furnace Hiking Trail parking lot, but there were no signs that he was there. Police say the teacher likes to hike off-trail.
Volunteers and other officials – including the Bartow County Sheriff's Office, Army Corp of Engineers, and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources – met at the entrance of Pine Mountain at Main Street at 2 p.m. Monday afternoon to begin their search.
Police officials did not have many more details, but wrote "prayers are needed all around."
11Alive reached out to Bartow County Schools for comment. They issued a statement saying:
"Our thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Salter and his family. He is a valuable member of the Cass High School family and it is our sincerest hope that all is well with him. We offer of any assistance we can provide during this challenging time."
