CARTERSVILLE, Ga. -- A pedestrian was killed in Cartersville after he was hit by a car Thursday night. 

According to authorities, the accident happened around 9:45 p.m. on Joe Frank Harris Parkway near Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. 

The pedestrian was identified as a Robert Patrick Johnson, 49, of Cartersville. 

Police say Johnson was crossing the road when he was struck by an oncoming car. The driver and a witness claim Johnson ran out in front of his car.

Cartersville Police Capt. Mark Camp said the driver was not impaired, but a can of beer was found on the victim.
