Police officers issue plea for chief's new kidney

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. -- After a life of service, a local police chief is now asking his community for help.

"Nice to meet you! I'm a hugger!" So starts the meeting that could save Cartersville Police Chief Thomas Culpepper's life.

"I'm going to do everything in my power to help," Kristie Callaway told 11Alive's Kaitlyn Ross.

The power of one simple photo can save a life. It happened with Kristie's husband, police officer Raleigh Callaway. A photo showing his daughters holding a sign that said, "Our Daddy Needs a Kidney" went viral. It worked. A stranger saw the photo and donated a kidney.

Cartersville stabbing suspect arrested in New Orleans

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. -- A 23-year-old man accused of stabbing a Cartersville woman in her bed has been arrested in Louisiana.

Joseph McGlorie was charged with aggravated assault in the Apr. 11 attack. He was taken into custody Apr. 30 in New Orleans. Investigators said he had been staying in homeless shelters and also has family in the New Orleans area. He is now awaiting extradition to Georgia.

The victim, 25-year-old Bernisha Beard, told Cartersville Police she was stabbed as she slept in her unit at the Etowah Village Apartments in the 300 block of Old Mill Road. According to a police report, she awoke to discover McGlorie stabbing her with a pocket knife.

A witness told police she saw the suspect covered in blood and running through the apartment complex shortly after the stabbing.

Taxes are due April 15. The extension only gives you additional time to file your return; it is not an extension of time to pay the tax that may be due. The assessed tax, even if you have not yet determined how much it is, is due by the April 15 deadline.

2 charged in series of Cartersville burglaries

2 charged in series of Cartersville burglaries

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. -- Cartersville Police believe two suspects are behind a string of business burglaries.

Gregory Allen Morris, 32, and Brittany Ann Ruth, 23, were arrested Apr. 9 and charged with multiple counts each of burglary, theft by taking, and criminal property damage.

Cartersville Police Maj. Mark Camp said investigators believe Morris and Ruth burglarized several businesses, including Full Throttle Pawn, Howren Properties, Merry Maids, Raintree Properties, and the Rollins Child Development Center.

Cobb County Police and the Bartow County Sheriff's Office assisted Cartersville Police in the investigation and arrests.

Car break-ins reported at Cartersville Cracker Barrel

Car break-ins reported at Cartersville Cracker Barrel

BARTOW COUNTY, Ga. -- The Bartow County Sheriff's Office is investigating multiple reports of car break-ins and property damage at a Cracker Barrel.

About 11 incidents were reported between Jan. 5 and Apr. 4. The break-ins occurred at the restaurant in the 5600 block of Canton Highway.

In each case, a suspect broke a vehicle's side or rear window and sometimes took items inside. Bartow County Sheriff's Inv. Jonathan White said a total of about $14,860 was reported in either thefts or damages.

Surveillance cameras at the Cracker Barrel captured one of the incidents. The footage shows a black man breaking into cars parked along the restaurant building, on the side closest to Interstate 75. The suspect drove a dark-colored four-door passenger car with chrome rims.

Anyone with information in the break-ins is asked to call the Bartow County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division at 770-382-5050.

2 more suspects arrested in Bartow County murder

BARTOW COUNTY, Ga. – Two more suspects have been charged in the death of a man who was found fatally shot outside a Bartow County business last month.

The victim, 36-year-old Robert Ashley Carr, was discovered lying in the parking lot of Woodwright Industries in the 1500 block of Highway 411 on Apr. 7. He was pronounced dead of multiple gunshot wounds.

Bartow County Sheriff Clark Millsap announced Friday that Arrick Deandrae Camps and Bernard Mario Dixon, both 20, were arrested and charged with felony murder in Carr's death.

Earlier this month, investigators arrested 34-year-old Stephanie Fawn Gardner and 24-year-old Elizabeth Morgan Kelley. Both were charged with party to the crime of felony murder.
