Several surface streets impacted by weekend roadwork

(WXIA) -- Interstate 20 will bear the brunt of this weekend's roadwork, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Drivers are asked to avoid nonessential travel on I-20, as road projects will require lane closures that will likely result in delays.

A number of surface streets will also be impacted by construction crews.

As always, all work is weather permitting. Get this weekend's forecast.

Cobb/Fulton counties: I-285
2 northbound lanes will be closed between Bolton and South Atlanta roads from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for concrete rehabilitation.

Coweta County: I-85
1 southbound lane will be closed at Sharpsburg-McCullum Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 12 p.m. Monday for barrier wall installation.

(WXIA) -- Once again, drivers in the Atlanta area are asked to avoid non-essential travel on Interstate 285 this weekend.

Georgia Department of Transportation road crews will work on several stretches of roads and highways throughout the area Friday night through Monday morning. Many of the projects will require lane closures, which could result in delays.

As always, all work is weather permitting. See this weekend's forecast.

Scheduled projects include:

Coweta County
1 southbound lane of I-85 will be closed at Sharpsburg-McCullum Road from 9 p.m. Friday to 12 p.m. Monday for barrier wall installation.

DeKalb County
2 northbound lanes of I-285 will be closed between Covington Highway and I-20 from 7:30 p.m. Saturday to 7:30 a.m. Sunday for sign structure work.

(WXIA) -- The Georgia Department of Transportation will continue to perform sign structure work on Interstate 285 this weekend.

Most of the projects will require lane closures, which could result in lengthy delays. Drivers are asked to avoid the Perimeter in impacted areas if possible.

All work is weather permitting.

Scheduled projects include:

Cobb County
1 lane of I-75 in each direction will be closed between Delk Road and South Marietta Parkway from 7:30 a.m. Saturday to 5:30 p.m. Sunday for sign structure work.

Coweta County
1 northbound lane of I-85 will be closed from 2 miles north of Bullsboro Drive from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly for striping.

DeKalb County
2 westbound lanes of I-285 will be closed between Northlake Parkway and Chamblee Tucker Road from 7:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for sign structure work.

One dead in Cartersville shooting

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. -- A suspect has been arrested in a fatal shooting Saturday night in the city of Cartersville.

Antavious Deshaun Linley, 24, of Kingston has been charged with one count of murder.

Officers responded to a shots fired call in the vicinity of 21 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. The shooting took place around 11 p.m.

Officers located a deceased black male, who had been shot in the head, in the backyard of that residence. He was identified Sunday as 24-year-old Actavious Tahji Thompson of Cartersville.

The investigation into Thompson's death is ongoing.

Cartersville Pizza Hut fugitive captured in Indiana

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. -- The man who escaped from a prisoner transport van in Cartersville last week has been arrested hundreds of miles away.

Sean Killion was taken into custody without incident near Ellettsville, Ind., just northwest of Bloomington. He was transported to a federal holding facility.

Killion, 42, was on his way to Indiana from Florida when he first escaped. Cartersville Police said he shoved a female security guard and ran from the transport van after it stopped at a Pizza Hut.

The suspect was originally arrested on a probation violation warrant. Investigators have not yet said what, if any, charges he will face in the escape.

The U.S. Marshals Task Force, Indiana State Police, Indiana Department of Corrections and DEA Task Force all worked together to arrest Killion.

Residents express fear about 'creeper' approaching kids

ADAIRSVILLE, Ga -- More than 100 people showed up at a neighborhood watch organizing meeting at Adairsville High School Monday to express their concerns about a man who is lurking in wooded areas and approaching children.

Bartow County Sheriff Clark Millsap was in attendance after hearing that some residents might try to take matters into their own hands.

"
I'm hoping that they will use restraint," he said. "I'm hoping that they will call us. I'm hoping that they will let us handle this in a legal way."

Sheriff Millsap also confirmed that a fourth sighting happened Monday. A boy and a girl told police they saw a man wearing all black and a mask near power lines along Iron Mountain Road.

3 westbound lanes of I-285 will be closed between New Northside Drive and I-75 from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday for sign structure work.

Cobb/Fulton counties
